Gilla Band (F.K.A Girl Band)
For their first album as Gilla Band, the artists formerly known as Girl Band redrew their own paradigm. Where their first two albums – 2015’s Holding Hands With Jamie and 2019’s The Talkies – captured four noisers in a room, cinema verité-style, documenting a sound that was occasionally beautiful, often brutal and always thrilling, 2022’s Most Normal finds the Dublin group applying that same inventive, radical approach to the studio as they do their instruments and amplifiers. The result is like little you’ve heard before, a kaleidoscopic spectrum of noise put in service of broken pop songs, FX-strafed avant-punk rollercoaster rides and passages of futurist dancefloor nihilism.
