British Sea Power To Release Soundtrack + Perform On The Cutty Sark 29 October 2013 in British Sea Power
British Sea Power’s widely-praised soundtrack for the film ‘From The Sea To The Land Beyond’ is to be released on CD and double vinyl accompanied by the film and digitally on 2nd December 2013 through Rough Trade Records. The album features a bonus track not available on the original soundtrack. It is available to pre-order now from our Rough Trade webstore
The soundtrack consists of re-workings of previous BSP songs and was recorded in Brighton and mixed by Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Daughter, M83, Cocteau Twins, Moby)
In January 2013 when the film, directed by Penny Woolcock, was first shown on BBC4 as part of the Storyville series (television in the Storyville slot) the viewing figure nudged 500,000 – over twice the usual audience size (for this BBC4 feature). The film features a fantastic array of footage of the British coastline from the BFI’s National Archive. Travelling from 1901, through both world wars, into peacetime and the modern age, ‘From The Sea To The Land Beyond’ shows our coast as a place of leisure, industry and wild nature: A woman scaling a sheer cliff face to collect eggs, dancers on the Sussex shoreline, émigrés from the...

Houndmouth Tour Indiana Hometown In New La Blogotheque Session 7 October 2013 in Houndmouth
Last month, a La Blogotheque video crew travelled to Houndmouth’s hometown of New Albany, IN to capture what things look like – to paraphrase their album title – ‘From the Hills Below the City.’ While roaming the area, the Rough Trade quartet performed acoustic and electric songs for their ‘Take Away Show’ – out in the woods, on the banks of the Ohio River, and even sitting around the ‘Green House’ where they recorded that debut album.
The videos show a year’s worth of on-the-road performance polish brought back home to the tiny town where it all began. In addition to the two original songs, the band revealed two new covers they’ve honed on tour: Funkadelic’s ‘Can You Get To That’ Johnny Cash’s ‘Long Black Veil.’
